　　 一、概说

数词是指表示数目多少或顺序先后的词。表示数目多少的数词叫基数词，如one,five,ten,thirty,sixty-five等;表示顺序先后的数词叫序数词，如first,sixth,tenth,twenty-first等。

二、基数词

1.基数词的表示法

(1)以下是最基本的基数词，学习者必须牢记：

thirteen 13 fourteen 14 fifteen 15 sixteen 16

seventeen 17 eighteen 18 nineteen 19 twenty 20

(2)21—99的表示法。先说几十，再说几，中间加连字号：

twenty-five 25 thirty-two 32 forty-nine 49

eighty-seven 87 ninety-nine 99 forty-four 44

(3)101—999的表示法。先说几百，后接and，再加末尾两位数(或末位数)：

two hundred and six 206 four hundred and sixty 460

six hundred and eighty-three 683 nine hundred and ninety-nine 999

(4)1000以上的基数词的表示法。先从右至左数，每三位数加一个逗号(即以此把数目分为若干段)。第一个逗号前的数为thousand(千)，第二个逗号前的数million(百万)，然后一段一段地数：

6,863 six thousand,eight hundred and sixty-three

45,256 forty-five thousand,two hundred and fifty-six

365,261 three hundred and sixty-five thousand,two hundred and sixty-one

50,331,250 fifty million,three hundred and thirty-one thousand,two hundred and fifty

【说明】①英语没有万这个单位，要表示万须借用thousand，如一万用十千表示(ten thousand)，十万用百千表示(one hundred thousand)。

②hundred,thousand,million等词在读数时不带复数词尾-s(即用单数形式)：

正：three hundred and thirty-five(335)/two thousand and forty-one(2041)

误：three hundreds and thirty-five(335)/two thousands and forty-one(2041)

但是，若不是用于读数，而是用于泛指许多，则用复数：

Thousands of people went there.数千人去了那儿。

Millions of workers lost their work.数百万人失业。

③在hundred后通常加上连词，不过此and在美国英语中可以省略。若读数中没有hundred，则在thousand后加and。
